Zydeco to cure your winter blues
With Mardi Gras coming a little earlier this year – Feb. 9 –we have an event that will get you in the spirit!
We’ll host a Zydeco Dancehall Concert on Friday, Jan. 22 at Alexander’s Ballroom at the Factory in Farmington. Individual tickets are $10, available now at Eventbrite.com or at the door. The evening begins with dance lessons at 6:45 p.m., followed by live music by the Boudin Brothers at 7:30 p.m.
Wondering just what Zydeco is? Here’s what Merriam-Webster.com says:
noun, zy·de·co often attributive \ˈzī-də-ˌkō\:
popular music of southern Louisiana that combines tunes of French origin with elements of Caribbean music and the blues and that features guitar, washboard, and accordion
Each year, we make an effort to host an event that will introduce our audience to a cultural style or tradition outside of our own. We hope you’re as excited about this year’s selection as we are! The Boudin Brothers have quite a following in St. Louis, we’re very fortunate to get them to Farmington to help us shake off the cabin fever and stomp our feet to some traditional Creole music. AND…we’re inviting everyone to come out early to catch a dance lesson with St. Louis-based Dancin’ Donna! It’s going to be a great evening with opportunities for dance if that’s what you prefer or to sit back and relax and enjoy some great music if that’s more your style!
